For decades, TV news has been a profitable business. Cable television networks have historically been a winner in this industry. But the recent rise of streaming is likely to change the way news is covered.

Streaming allows viewers to tune in from anywhere. In fact, 85 percent of American households subscribe to at least one streaming service. Using streaming to view news has proven to be an effective way to bring mass audiences to your broadcast.

It’s also a great way for news organizations to archive content. This makes it easy for them to create news libraries. Aside from that, it’s an inexpensive way to deliver timely information.

One example is SciTechDaily, a site that offers primary science news. They cover everything from gravity waves to astrophysics.

Another example is BBC What’s New, a weekly program that catches up on what’s new in the world of technology. There are also podcasts and astronomy news sites like Space Scoop.

The news-streaming business is no stranger to the competition. ABC, CBS, and Fox all entered the fray. And as a result, the field is now crowded. Interestingly, there are free streamers as well.

The free ones are basically telling viewers they can skip the cable subscription and go straight to the good stuff. As a result, they’re trying to cash in on the big bucks.

However, the free streamer also needs to be more than just a way to cut the cord. Those companies would be more successful if they were more transparent about their business model.
