CNN, Fox, and MSNBC are three of the largest profit-makers. They have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in streaming operations.
In addition to providing traditional broadcast news, these major news channels have launched documentaries and offer news analysis. The networks have also planned regular nightly news programs. As a result, viewers can watch programming from anywhere, anytime. This flexibility reduces the scarcity in the media equation.
News-streaming is a business that combines the power of the Internet with the reach of traditional television. Unlike traditional broadcast, the news is available to the viewer in real time. It can be accessed through any web browser. Streaming allows users to express their opinions, block topics, and follow trending events.
News-streaming has proven to attract a diverse audience. Many of these users are younger than 45, so the major news networks hope streaming will help them expand their audiences.
For its part, CBS News is launching aggressive local streaming news strategies. It plans to beam 45,000 hours of local news in 2022.
Similarly, NBC News Now offers 31 million hours of content a month. Most of NBC’s audience is under 45.
Online video streaming is likely to change the way political news is covered. In addition to the traditional outlets, it is likely to lure new, overtly political news operations.
