Civil Rights attorney Ben Crump has been retained by the family of Brianna Grier, a 25-year-old Black Georgia woman who died after falling out of the back seat of a moving police car during a mental health crisis. Georgia’s Bureau of Investigation says that the rear door was “never closed” but said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Current News is a series of broadcasts that are produced daily by media organizations. Broadcasts usually employ a special report format, which may include an internal alert service. During the broadcast, the broadcaster will send an alert to its affiliates, which in turn will switch its feed to a reverse countdown, starting at 5 seconds. Local television stations often don’t provide reverse countdowns. However, some national networks do. While most national networks offer these features, local stations may not.
The term “breaking news” is used to describe the most significant story of the moment. It can also refer to a story that was previously unavailable, such as the 2017-18 North Korea crisis. Breaking news is a redundant term, however, because 24-hour news channels fill the airtime with commentary. Nonetheless, the term “breaking news” can also refer to a story that’s of wide public interest. For example, the North Korea crisis may be considered breaking news, although it’s not yet a worldwide event.
Breaking news can interrupt prime-time programming. Even if a program is highly rated, a breaking news story may interrupt it. During the April 2017 episode of Scandal, for example, the broadcast was interrupted by a missile strike in the Middle East. In some cases, networks may even suspend commercials for a longer duration. These events usually coincide with popular programs and can impact ratings. However, breaking news will interrupt programming, so it’s important to plan ahead.
