The U.S. Justice Department charged two foreign companies and one individual in connection with the March 2024 crash that caused the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, killing six construction workers.

When breaking news events occur that warrant the interruption of regular non-news programming, TV and radio stations usually interrupt their scheduled commercial advertising for a special report or “Newsflash”. The newsflash is often accompanied by a distinctively sounding audio cue and lower third graphics. It may be overlaid on the bottom of a screen, or it may appear as a crawl during regularly scheduled programming. Before the advent of 24-hour news channels, such breaks were rare and reserved for major national news events, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, or severe weather emergencies.
