When Ted Turner launched the Cable News Network in 1980, he had little experience in the news business. He saw an opportunity to create a new outlet that would attract viewers.
But when he first began, cable TV was criticized for its lack of viewership. In the years since, the network has grown into a major player in the media landscape.
Streaming has given networks the opportunity to archive their content and deliver it to the audience when they want it. The result is a more personalized experience for the viewer.
A number of high-profile streaming networks have entered the news business. These include Newsy, Cheddar, and Al Jazeera. Their business models are similar to those of cable: they repurpose programs that have been on television for many years. They also offer documentaries and news analysis.
Another entrant into the streaming space is ABC. While the news network isn’t responsible for the content on external internet sites, it has entered the market with a promising strategy. It has plans to stream 45,000 hours of local news in 2022.
Fox is another streaming competitor. As of the time of writing, it has attracted 1.5 million subscribers to its Fox Nation app. This shows that viewers are willing to pay for the news.
CBS has joined the streaming game as well. In fact, the network has been in the streaming business for ten years. The company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its streaming operations.
