As the year comes to an end, we can look back on the many events and activities that have occurred over the past few weeks. Among the highlights, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) campus has kicked off Homecoming. There will be a variety of events in the coming weeks, including a celebration luncheon, a virtual event, a late night breakfast, and an opening ceremony for Native Heritage Month. Throughout these events, there is a message to the community about what SIUE has to offer.

The educational leadership program at SIUE has selected 10 students for the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program (ISLPP). The ISLPP is a state-wide program that seeks to recruit and train aspiring school administrators, including principals, from communities across northern and southern Illinois.

This fall, the SIUE IRIS Center hosted a Digital Humanities Student Showcase. This event celebrated the innovative work of students using digital tools to communicate complex topics to broad audiences. Five winners were recognized. They each used nostalgia to educate their audience.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is observing winter break beginning December 23. On January 3, the university will begin its spring semester. An official opening ceremony will take place at the Morris University Center’s International Room. The opening will feature remarks from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a musical performance, and the opportunity to meet with representatives from the SIUE administration.

The University’s Educational Leadership Program has also made a $1.5 million donation to the Enterprise Holdings Foundation to renovate the atrium in the Engineering Building. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the event.
