BREAKING: Key evidence in Luigi Mangione state trial must be suppressed, judge rules

A judge ruled that state prosecutors will be allowed to use some key evidence recovered during Luigi Mangione’s arrest in his state criminal case, but that other key pieces of evidence will be suppressed. NBC News’ Danny Cevallos breaks down the ruling that is a partial win for the defense and how it affects the federal case.

When a breaking news event occurs that warrants an interruption of regular non-news programming or regularly scheduled broadcasts, a news anchor will usually announce the change and urge viewers to stay tuned. The network will then pause its normal feed for the duration of the break-in, often with a countdown sequence. This allows network affiliates to switch to the national network feed in order to carry the breaking news report. During this time, lower thirds and other graphics may be altered to convey urgency.
