Breaking news is a type of television or radio broadcast that identifies an event occurring in the immediate or imminent future, which warrants interruptions in current non-news programming (or in some cases, regularly scheduled network newscasts). It is generally accompanied by an alert crawl informing viewers of the nature of the story.
