Trending is a news program that follows stories currently being discussed, debated or trending on social media. The show is hosted by a news anchor, and can feature different reporters covering various topics from around the world.
Breaking news is news that warrants an immediate interruption of non-news programming (or, in the case of national network newscasts, a regular broadcast). The interrupting event may be covered on a national or local level, and may require the stations to switch from their normal network feeds. A countdown sequence, distinctive music cue and special graphics are often used to indicate the breaking news event.
