An organization that syndicates news to multiple publications. Also known as a wire service, they act as the engine room of the media world, collecting and feeding press releases, breaking news and images to their customers. The Associated Press is one of the best-known examples, but there are many others.
A snippet of information, typically a quote, in an article that is set out in larger or stylized text to grab reader attention. It’s intended to be memorable and add context or a dash of personality to an article.
An expert in a particular area of journalism who reports on current events or trends. They offer insight and analysis, bringing depth to the five Ws of reporting — who, what, when, where and why. Often, they have an opinion that’s informed by their own research or experience. They’re the go-to source for thought-provoking takes on what’s happening in the world around us.
