This week we take a look at breaking news stories that have been getting lots of attention. From a report on how unmanned drones, which cost thousands of dollars to produce compared to American missiles that can run into the millions, are reshaping wars around the world, to allegations that labor leader Cesar Chavez’s former wife abused girls and raped Dolores Huerta, we’re exploring some of the most popular topics you’re talking about on Current.

Breaking news refers to an event or story that is so serious that it requires nationwide, urgent coverage requiring numerous television and radio stations to interrupt regularly scheduled non-news programming (or in the case of 24-hour news networks, their live broadcasts). This type of news usually requires network affiliates to halt regular commercial advertising for several minutes and display a special graphic overlaid with a countdown sequence and music cue (typically “Newsflash” or “Special Report”) to alert viewers.
