Current News is a feature that talks about what’s Trending. When a breaking news event occurs that is of enough importance to interrupt regular non-news programming or even a national network’s regularly scheduled newscast, a broadcaster will typically alert all affiliates to “stand by” and then begin a countdown sequence to allow the affiliates to switch to the news feed. Then, an opening graphic appears, typically with a distinctive music cue, followed by the news anchor who welcomes viewers to the report and introduces the topic of coverage. Depending on the nature of the breaking news, lower thirds and other graphics may be modified to convey a sense of urgency.
