Current News is the main news program on the 24-hour news channel CBS News. The show airs Monday through Saturday at 4 p.m. ET and is available on CBS News’ streaming service, CBS All Access. The show covers a wide range of topics, from national issues to local events. The show also features interviews and special reports.
Breaking news is a live broadcast interruption of non-news programming (or, in the case of 24-hour networks, a regularly scheduled breaking news report) to cover a developing news story that warrants immediate attention. Typically, the news event will trigger a countdown sequence on national network affiliates to tell them to stand by while the network interrupts their regular programming and begins reporting the breaking story. This countdown is often accompanied by a distinctive opening graphic and music cue. Depending on the situation, a news anchor may appear in-studio or remotely to lead the coverage.
