Breaking news, also called late-breaking news, special report, special coverage, news flash, or just in, is a term used for the most important story in progress, usually at the time it is reported. Breaking news also refers to a story that will likely be of general interest to viewers, but has not yet been reported by a news organization. Sometimes, “Just In” is used instead. It is also possible to subscribe to several news channels, each offering a different angle on a given story.
The AAAS recently introduced new pricing plans for its flagship publication, News from Science. New subscribers will now pay $2.99/month for a subscription. Annual subscribers will pay $25/year. Current News subscribers will not be affected by this change until April 30, 2021, but will be given a six-month grace period in which to upgrade to an annual subscription for the new price. This grace period will allow current subscribers to choose the subscription that works best for them.
In addition to the major national and international news organizations, local communities can also get current news from a variety of sources. A recent report revealed that a majority of residents in Sammamish viewed local news as reliable and informative, but were confused by conflicting stories on local TV stations. Thankfully, a new city councilmember, Roisin O’Farrell, posted responses to 2022 questions on the city’s website. Seattle’s professional women’s soccer team also recognized Mayor Kali Clark. And in another area of local news, lifeguards are returning to Pine Lake Park on a limited basis due to a lack of staff.
