Trending is a current news segment that talks about what’s hot on social media and popular searches on Google. Depending on the story, the segment may be presented by a single reporter or multiple reporters. Often, it will include the latest viral videos or trending topics. Typically, the report will be interrupted by breaking news events or severe weather conditions. Before the advent of 24-hour news networks, programming interruptions were rare, and only for the most important stories such as the assassination of U.S. President John F.
