For nine years in a row, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has received INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. To commemorate the honor, the university held an in-person celebration at the Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom on the Edwardsville campus. The ceremony included a musical performance, a keynote speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and a special collection of historical research relating to Whitman’s writing.
The American College Personnel Association also recognized the university’s impressive contributions to higher education in a recent survey. It was ranked among the top four institutions nationwide in its annual survey.
The SIUE College of Education is launching the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program (ISLPP) – an initiative that selects aspiring principals from communities in northern and southern Illinois. This is an important development because principals in these smaller schools play a vital role in helping aspiring teachers prepare for a successful career.
SIUE is also making the most of its homecoming festivities. The University hosted a ceremonial ribbon cutting with the Enterprise Holdings Foundation to mark the completion of a major renovation of its atrium. A $1.5 million donation went a long way in the renovation.
The campus community has enjoyed the Homecoming season, and now it’s time to look ahead to the upcoming fall 2022 semester. SIUE will be hosting an in-person and virtual ceremonial celebration in January. During this time, SIUE will also observe winter break.
One of the most important parts of a homecoming celebration is to acknowledge the contributions of the university’s faculty and staff. Often, their work isn’t well-known, so it’s a big deal when they get the recognition they deserve.
