The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville campus has kicked off its homecoming festivities in style. A few of the notable events include the opening of the new interdisciplinary center for research and innovation, a ribbon cutting for the School of Engineering and an inauguration ceremony for its newest faculty member. In addition, a few alumni and friends have joined the party as well.
To top it off, the college recently surpassed a decade long streak in INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award. While this isn’t a newsworthy event in itself, the honor does recognize a university’s commitment to student development.
SIUE’s Education Leadership program is also getting in on the action. Ten students have been selected to take part in the ISLPP (Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program), a statewide program designed to provide an alternative pathway to principalship. This program is one of the many efforts being made by the university to increase minority and underserved student enrollment.
On the academic front, the school’s newest faculty member, Jason Stacy, has received the prestigious Carnegie Foundation’s Faculty Innovation Grant. His research in the field of “learning by doing” is a particularly noteworthy accomplishment.
On the student front, first year students Morgen Ryan Schroeder and Hannah Smith are among the many who have achieved a degree of success. Several others have been named to the Dean’s List.
Overall, the College of Business is an outstanding place to study, work, and play. A plethora of opportunities awaits students, including a state-of-the-art sports and fitness facility, an on-site business incubator, and a state-of-the-art learning resource center.
