During the early days of television, the term breaking news was used to describe a live story. Although the term has since been replaced with the term “late breaking news”, it is still used to describe the most important story of the moment.

Typically, a breaking news story will last between a few minutes and several hours. The reporter at the location of the breaking event may share additional information as it becomes available. In some instances, the story may be aired on local TV stations instead of on the network.

The process of breaking news on TV is similar to the process used on radio. In most cases, the reporter on the scene will be given a cue by the network talent. Once the news is delivered, the broadcaster will send a notification to all affiliates.

A breaking news theme may be used during a local newscast to emphasize the importance of the story. It is usually only used for news that is both urgent and critical. A radio breaking news theme must have a high tenor and have an urgent implication.

When breaking news occurs during a television program, the network talent will briefly pause to reset the coverage. Then, the program will be resumed. The news anchor may even reintroduce the story.

The news may be aired live, or it may be delayed. If the story is important, it may be aired continuously. In some cases, the network will provide a live anchor to cover the story.
