Trending is a feature that talks about some of the latest news stories that are currently being talked about. The term “trending” refers to a story that has received a significant amount of attention on social media and other outlets. Trending is also used as a way to highlight stories that are receiving significant viewership on current news programs. It is also sometimes referred to as a Newsflash or Special Report (although the latter two are more typically reserved for extremely urgent breaking news events, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy). Newsflash and Special Report typically involve an interruption of non-news programming, or the regular network newscast for affiliates.
