Trending is a daily feature where we talk about news stories that are getting a lot of attention from our audience. We look at the stories that are top of mind for people, and explore why they’re important.

Breaking news is a term for urgently breaking news that warrants a national network station to interrupt regular programming (or, in the case of 24-hour news channels, live coverage). Traditionally, such “cut-ins” were reserved for events that required immediate nationwide coverage, such as a severe weather event or the assassination of a president.
