Indiana Becomes First State To Approve A Near-Total Abortion Ban Since Roe V. Wade Was Overturned

The Republican-run Indiana state legislature advanced the measure late Friday, despite some GOP lawmakers opposing it for going too far. The new restrictions go into effect September 15 and include exceptions for some victims of rape and incest or when the mother faces risk of death. The White House called the move “devastating” and urged Congress to pass a law “restoring the protections of Roe – the only way to secure a woman’s right to choose nationally.”
