Trending is a feature on Current News that allows viewers to vote for the topics they would like to see covered in upcoming news stories. When a topic receives enough votes, it will appear on the Trending list in the right sidebar of the website. The feature is powered by Topsy.
Breaking News is a term used by broadcasters to refer to events that require immediate, urgent coverage and require the interruption of non-news programming, or, in the case of network newscasts, the suspension of regular commercial advertising. Historically, such breaks were reserved for extremely serious events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy or major natural disasters, but breaking news reports now frequently occur during regularly scheduled programming.
