Trending is a news segment that features popular topics in the world right now. It is usually presented by an anchor or guest with a short clip from one of the Trending stories on the web, and accompanied by a music cue to signify that the topic is hot. It is a variation of the Breaking News feature that is often used by 24-hour news channels to interrupt non-news programming with breaking events. In the past, cutting-ins were reserved for extremely urgent news such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, but they are now commonplace for many types of breaking news.
