Breaking news, also called late-breaking news, special coverage, and “news flash,” refers to the most important story of the moment. In TV news, breaking news is often the only news that is of interest to a wide audience. While breaking news generally refers to the latest news, it can also refer to a story that occurred in the past that may be of interest to viewers right now. In some cases, the term may be redundant if it refers to an event that has already been reported by another news organization.
Breaking news on television can interrupt popular shows, new programming, or even high-rated programs. Breaking news on TV can interrupt a critically-acclaimed show with just a few minutes left to air. NBC News’s April 2017 Shayrat missile strike interrupted an episode of Scandal. The news is a major disruption during prime-time hours. While some viewers may be happy to have an uninterrupted news stream, others aren’t so fortunate.
In this issue of Current News, we’ve got news about the new council members of the City of Sammamish: Roisin O’Farrell and Rituja Indapure. The City has posted responses to questions submitted by the community for the city’s 2022 strategic plan. Meanwhile, the professional women’s soccer team recently honored Mayor Kali Clark.
