As we close out the year, it’s always a good idea to look at the year past. It was a great year for news, as voted by the public. Whether it was the newsworthy or the not, the 2022 year in review was a memorable one.
Some of the newsworthy events in this year included the death of a notable individual, the newfound capabilities of artificial intelligence, and the emergence of new technology. While some of these might seem like small details, they were all big news in their own right.
For example, it was a very big deal for the SIUE campus to welcome alumni and friends to campus during Homecoming in 2018. Additionally, the sexiest thing to happen in SIUE during the last half of this year was the opening of the new Enterprise Holdings Foundation atrium. Thanks to a $1.5 million donation, the atrium has a brand new look.
One of the biggest buzzwords is digital humanities, as it often has the goal of communicating complex topics to a broad audience. In fact, the IRIS Center hosted a fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase to showcase student achievements using digital tools.
The American College Personnel Association recognized a sustained commitment to student affairs. Among its most notable accolades is the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award.
There are many similar awards for colleges and universities, but there are only a handful of those that are truly noteworthy. However, there is a new entrant to the fray that might make a splash.
