The term “breaking news” refers to stories that are currently live or occurring at the time of publication. It can also refer to a story of broad interest to viewers. In addition to being a verb, the term may also be used to describe a story that is a few days old but is of significant news significance. NBC News has used this term for its most recent breaking news story, which took place on September 11, 2001. In addition, breaking news is also used interchangeably with “late-breaking news,” “special report,” “news flash,” and “newsflash.”
Breaking news stories are usually interrupted by a network or local station’s outro promo, which directs viewers to the network or local station website, streaming news channels, or other sources. The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Office of Undergraduate Admissions recently hosted a spring 2022 conference to welcome admitted students from diverse backgrounds.
