Meta buys AI social network Moltbook

Meta, owner of Instagram and Facebook, has bought Moltbook, a social media platform designed for AI bots to speak to each other. NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz talks to technology journalist Jacob Ward about what this purchase could mean for the future of technology, humans, and AI.

Trending is a daily news segment that talks about the stories that are grabbing people’s attention. These stories could be anything from a celebrity’s feud with someone to an important world event that is getting a lot of buzz. Until the creation of 24-hour news networks, breaking news events typically required that national network affiliates interrupt their regular programming (such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963). The interruption would usually begin with a countdown sequence that allows affiliates to switch over to the network feed. There would then be an opening graphic and a distinctive music cue, followed by the network’s news anchors reporting on the story at hand. Other graphics such as lower thirds may be altered to convey a sense of urgency.
