Morning News NOW Full Broadcast – August 8
For years, television news has lived on the airwaves and cable, but with the rise of streaming media, the audience for current news is shrinking. The share of cable television subscribers in the United States dropped from 76 percent in 2015 to 56 percent by 2021. Fox News Channel, for instance, will lose $20 per subscriber every year. As of 2018, 85 percent of households subscribe to a streaming news service. Today, most of these consumers are under 45.
The failure of CNN+ was the result of its overhyped promise. Despite that, major news networks have high hopes for streaming. The networks have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into streaming news operations. While the success of Netflix and HBO’s Instant Player may be questionable, companies like Fox have already poured millions of dollars into streaming services. For example, Fox has attracted 1.5 million subscribers to its streaming app, and NBC News Now boasts that it has 31 million video views per month.
The future of streaming news is bright, though. Streaming allows networks to archive content and make it available on demand anywhere. In addition to allowing viewers to watch news from virtually any place, streaming news has become ubiquitous. AAEM will hold a meeting on April 14, 2021, to discuss the bill. Further, it will support legislation that would ban online gambling. And, with its new regional chapter in Maryland and Virginia, AAEM is making it possible for viewers to view video news wherever they are, regardless of their physical location.
