Historically, broadcast news has been a profitable business. But new levels of stress have emerged from the Great Resignation and the pandemic. This has created kindling for news innovators.

As the media industry continues to adapt to the shift in technology, news networks have sensed a technological advantage in serving a streaming audience. The major streaming networks have been in business for ten years and schedule regular nightly news programs. These programs repurpose programming from broadcast and cable. They also offer news analysis, documentaries, and reruns.

While networks will not allow local stations to begin evening newscasts at this time, they may be given the opportunity to break away from the network feed. This may be done by showing the program on an “extended edition” or by allowing local stations to begin their own evening newscasts.

Networks will resume their normal programming when the coverage ends. This is often followed by an outro promo directing viewers to watch the program on the network’s website. This is a way to make sure viewers know that the program was originally broadcast.

In the case of a live broadcast, the network may continue to show a live shot of the anchor. The anchor may also remind viewers that more details will be presented on local news.

The anchor may pause for a short period of time to re-adjust the program’s coverage. The anchor may also change the lower thirds to signal a sense of urgency.
