What is Current News? This is a quick overview of the different types of news. While the term “breaking news” is used interchangeably with “breaking stories,” it also has different meanings. Basically, it refers to a story that is happening right now, and is of immediate public interest. Sometimes, it refers to a story that has already been covered by a news organization. Occasionally, breaking news is substituted by “just in,” which refers to a story that was first reported and is now making headlines.
The headline of a newspaper is its biggest story, the largest and boldest print on the centerfold. It is designed to capture the attention of readers and potential buyers. On the other hand, trending news is dependent on how many times the story is viewed on web-pages. These stories are more reader-focused, and often trend well despite having little impact on society. However, a headline may not be the only element influencing the audience’s decision making process.
In addition to breaking news stories, broadcasters can also interrupt programs airing on prime time. This can lead to a disruption of highly rated programs and other programming. Some of these programs may be timed to air, but the breaking news can interrupt a show with just minutes to air. An example of this is the April 2017 Shayrat missile strike on ABC. A new episode of Scandal was interrupted by the news. While local stations can avoid putting themselves in this position, networks are best prepared.
