Current News is a segment of a television or radio newscast that covers trends. Typically, it is reported by a news anchor with the help of reporters in the field. In addition, the segment may also incorporate analysis by journalists in the studio or remotely via phone, satellite, broadband (B-GAN) or other means of communication. It is commonly used for breaking news events, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which elicited nationwide coverage and required many stations to interrupt regular non-news programming. The break is usually preceded by a countdown sequence and a distinctive music cue. This is in contrast to newsflash, special report, or breaking news tickers which are used for certain events that may not require a complete interruption of regular broadcasting.
