The current news cycle is awash with new online news services, and some of them are free. Free news streamers are trying to convince viewers that they can cut their cable subscriptions and enjoy cable-quality programming without the high fees. They’re hoping to make a chunk of the $3 billion in profit that streaming services will generate in 2020.

Online video streaming isn’t bound by traditional media licensing restrictions, and can offer viewers the chance to watch their favorite shows on their computers or mobile devices. It also allows for reruns of previously aired programs. This means that viewers can tailor their experience to suit their needs.

In addition to free streaming, major news networks have been repurposing their programming to attract a streaming audience. ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC have each launched streaming operations, and each has a substantial number of subscribers.

While the major news networks invested hundreds of millions of dollars in their streaming efforts, they’ve been hesitant to overhype the technology. Rather than promoting the service by promoting its content, they have been focusing on creating high-quality programs, and they’ve avoided overspending.

Streaming allows for timely news delivery. For example, viewers can check on election results or trending topics anytime.

Similarly, the BBC, whose programming focuses on international and science news, offers daily stories on global events. Those interested in astronomy or cosmology can access SciTechDaily.

Meanwhile, Fun Kids Radio produces podcasts, including The Week Junior Show, aimed at children. News for Kids features a daily roundup of the latest news for children. These include stories about children doing amazing things in Africa.
