A violent storm system is bringing severe weather and the potential for widespread destructive winds and tornadoes from Florida to the Northeast, and blizzard conditions to the upper Midwest.
Trending is the current topic in the media, usually the top news story of the moment. The term often refers to a breaking story that warrants an interruption of current non-news programming, such as a television or radio show, in order to provide coverage of the event. If the story is deemed urgent enough, a national network will interrupt its regular broadcast with a countdown sequence that will alert its affiliates to stand by for an interruption, and then begin airing a special report or “Newsflash” with a distinctive music cue. In recent years, stations have also used Special Report tickers during regularly scheduled programming to cover breaking stories.
