During a breaking news event, there are many things that can happen. For example, a network may join in the coverage of an event, or the local station may break away from the network feed to give the local audience more details. Other things to consider are the length of the coverage and the network’s actions.
Typically, breaking news is used to refer to the most important news story of the moment. It can also refer to events that are not immediately breaking, such as an old event that has just come to light. Depending on the news story, breaking news can last from several minutes to several hours.
A typical radio breaking news theme has an urgent tenor. This is to convey a sense of urgency. A station will also have a reporter at the scene of the event to report on the story. When coverage is complete, the local station may cut to video of the event. In addition, the anchor will remind viewers that more details will appear on the local news.
The local station may also have an outro promo that directs viewers to its website or other platforms. A station may also be given a cue from the network talent to start the evening newscast.
During a breaking news event, a station’s director may choose to use the local news station instead of the network. The local station may have an anchor available to call in.
