Current News is a global media outlet with coverage of events from around the world. In addition to national news, it also provides information on local communities. The news section includes links to local TV and radio stations. While news sources have long dominated cable and broadcast television, streaming services are gaining popularity, especially among younger viewers.
Cable and broadcast news companies are profitable businesses. In 2020, CNN, Fox, and MSNBC are projected to generate $3 billion in profit. Streaming services would love a piece of that profit. Hence, they mimic the style and approach of cable news. As such, they’re essentially telling viewers they can cut their cable subscription but still get cable-quality news.
CASE also publishes award-winning newsletters, blogs, and the award-winning magazine Currents. With heightened stress levels, the Great Resignation and pandemic, and increased financial pressures, higher education staff around the world are facing new challenges. Distractions are one way to manage these problems.
Current news shows often have a partisan focus. CNN, for instance, is owned by Ted Turner. Despite its lack of experience in the news industry, Turner’s cable network is now the largest news operation in the U.S. and employs more journalists than any other U.S. TV news operation. It also has spawned a number of other networks, including MSNBC and Fox News Channel. Although CBS tried to buy the cable news network, the deal fell through.
