Trending is a segment on the online news and entertainment website Current News that talks about the top stories in a given time frame. It’s a popular segment that gives viewers insight into what people are talking about on the site and in the world around them. It is similar to the “Newsflash” or “Special Report” tickers used by television and radio stations when a breaking news event requires an immediate interruption of non-news programming, such as the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy in 1963, which required many network affiliates to interrupt their regular newscasts to provide live coverage of the event.
