While traditional media outlets can easily be shut down, mobile devices are much harder to detect, which has made citizen journalism possible. For instance, the Taliban Intelligence Agency recently banned the use of Pakistani rupees in Afghanistan.
The history of news has varied, but some common topics are government, war, health, education, entertainment, economy, and environment. Today, news may also focus on fashion, food, and quirky events. Since ancient times, government proclamations have been referred to as news. As technology, social developments, and espionage networks have accelerated the flow of information, news has become a global phenomenon.
The evolution of news has been characterized by a shift from factual to emotional format. While private newsletters continued to be used by those in need of information, newspapers began to emerge in Europe in the early 1600s. The first formalized newspaper is the Relation aller Furnemmen und gedenckwurdigen Historien, published in Germany in 1604. Earlier, the Ancient Roman acta diurna served a similar function in 131 BC.
The Department of Community Development at the City of Sammamish, Washington, is soliciting proposals for a Classification and Compensation Study. The City of Sammamish encourages women-owned businesses to apply. In September of 2022, a Progress Pride Flag Mosaic will be unveiled in the lobby of Sammamish City Hall. This mosaic will celebrate the city’s commitment to progress.
