This included major tragedies, such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; a live report would usually begin with a countdown sequence over a distinctive music cue. Alternatively, some networks have employed a special report ticker during regular programming (often overlaid on lower thirds), which eliminates the need for cut-ins.
