About Current News
Trending is a segment of a television news program or radio broadcast that talks about recent topics in the media. Typically, these segments are a short summary of a story that is currently in the headlines. A trending story may be a newsflash, special report or an alert crawl. When a story is breaking, a station or network will interrupt regularly scheduled non-news programming (or in the case of a 24-hour news channel, a live feed), using an opening graphic with distinctive music and lower thirds to indicate a break in regular coverage. Breaking news usually lasts only a few minutes and is followed by a full-length reporting segment.
