Streaming news has been a trend since 2006. In fact, it has been around for over ten years. These networks take broadcast and cable programming and repurpose it into a streaming format. The result is news that arrives when a viewer wants it and travels wherever a viewer goes.

There are two major streaming news services available. NBC News Now and CBS News’s “Fox Nation”. Each boasts a variety of programming. Besides regular news programs, they also offer documentaries, reruns, and news analysis.

Streaming also allows news to be personalized, which means viewers can select and customize their news experiences. Some streaming services allow users to follow specific topics, block certain subjects, or express opinions. Others allow viewers to express their feelings or emotions by writing in.

Streaming news has already shown that it can attract niche audiences and mass audiences alike. For example, in 2022, CBS News plans to air 45,000 hours of local news. Additionally, a network called Al Jazeera has entered the streaming world.

Unlike cable or television, a streaming news service is not bound by the limited TV licenses and costly negotiations with cable companies. This opens the door for new players to enter the industry. However, as streaming becomes more popular, it is possible that new overtly political news operations will emerge.

Despite the challenges, these streaming services have been able to overcome their critics and attract viewers. The key is to avoid over-hyping their offerings.
