News has existed since ancient times, when it was simply government proclamations. Over the years, technology and social development have increased the speed of news’ spread.
“Breaking news” is also used to describe older news stories. Some 24-hour news channels use the term to fill time with commentary, rather than reporting breaking news stories. Today, news is often defined by what’s happening at a given moment in time. Often, it’s a story of heightened public interest.
The American Broadcasting Company is the primary news service in the United States. CSM, a German public broadcaster, covers both US and international current events.
