The Internet has given us access to a wealth of content. While there are many ways to get information, television remains the most common way to get current news.

For years, we’ve watched television and radio report what’s happening in the world. This allowed us to stay in the loop, but we also had to wait for the news to turn. Cable TV took this to the next level. Not only did it one-up broadcast news, but it also gave us live events.

In order to compete, cable TV networks tried to enter the streaming business. Streaming news is essentially the same as conventional TV. News networks invest hundreds of millions of dollars in streaming operations. However, these efforts have failed.

Streaming news is not yet the panacea that some executives hope. But it’s becoming an increasingly viable option.

Rather than relying on expensive negotiations with cable companies, streaming can offer a cost-effective solution. Moreover, it allows networks to archive content. Streaming also makes it possible for viewers to watch wherever they want. That’s a big deal, especially for those who don’t have access to the news.

Streaming news is a good fit for both large and small audiences. Mass audiences want the same content, while niche audiences like science and astronomy enthusiasts might prefer more specialized offerings.

As streaming continues to gain popularity, we’ll likely see more partisan news outlets surfacing. These might include the new One America News and the Fox News Channel.
