Current News isn’t just for the news junkie. It’s also an effective way to communicate with your elected officials. Here are five things you may have missed.

The ISLPP (Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program) is a program designed to promote student leadership. These aspiring principals come from schools of all sizes, from rural communities in northern Illinois to the fanciest suburbs in southern Illinois.

SIUE’s Educational Leadership program appoints 10 students to the ISLPP. As part of their training, these students are taking an in-depth look at the role of school leadership. In particular, they are looking at how a school can develop and sustain its leadership capacity.

They’ll also be learning how to use technology to improve the lives of the children who will one day become leaders in the workplace. This information will help them achieve their personal and professional goals. Aside from gaining knowledge about leadership, the students will also be receiving valuable hands-on experience.

They’ll also get to take advantage of some of the most impressive technological offerings on campus. For example, the University’s atrium has been renovated with a generous donation. With a $1.5 million dollar gift, this atrium was renamed the Enterprise Holdings Foundation atrium.

The SIUE School of Engineering joined with the Enterprise Holdings Foundation for a ribbon cutting ceremony. There’s even a special collection of historical research, the Douglas and Betty Noverr Collection of Walt Whitman’s Journalism.

To round out the year, the University will take a brief winter break. Winter break will begin on December 23 and last through January 2.
