Abortion is on the ballot for the first time in Kansas since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June. Although primary election turnout tends to be lower than general elections, Kansas residents are poised to go out and vote on the abortion issue, according to NBC News Correspondent Dasha Burns. “As we’ve been traveling around the state over the last few weeks, it’s absolutely the talk of the state. It’s just about impossible to ignore,” Burns said.

While many news organizations are still in the business of broadcasting news, they are finding their audiences disappearing. The share of Americans who pay for cable television has dwindled from 76 percent in 2015 to 56 percent by 2021. Fox News Channel alone has lost $20 per subscriber every year. Today, 85 percent of American households subscribe to a streaming service. While cable TV has dominated news for decades, streaming is redefining the way we consume information.
Despite the difficulties, major news networks are still hopeful about streaming. CBS News, for example, recently announced that it would be beaming 45,000 hours of local news to its subscribers by 2022. Newsmax, Bloomberg, and Cheddar have already planted their flags in the streaming frontier. With the new streaming model, it’s hoped that more media companies will enter this new market. But even with the growing competition, it may be too early to judge the viability of streaming.
A recent event hosted by the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Graduate School celebrated the spring 2022 Research Grants for Graduate Students. These grants, valued at $500 each, support the research and creative activities of graduate students. Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences held its 2022 Honors Day convocation where it honored 303 students and presented 357 scholarships. This was the first in-person convocation since 2019.
