Trending
When a news event takes place that warrants an interruption of current non-news programming (or, in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts), stations may choose to interrupt their regular broadcasting or network feed with what is known as a “breaking news” report. The break usually begins with a station imaging promo or special graphic and a distinctive music cue, followed by the network news anchor reporting on the story at hand. The telecast may last for a few minutes, or it may continue for hours and even days. The network may also provide analysis on the story through in-studio analysts or via phone, satellite, or broadband (B-GAN).
NPR’s Trending looks at stories that are making headlines and generating buzz:
* How unmanned drones, which cost in the thousands to build but can strike at targets with accuracy, are reshaping war around the world.
* California audits raise doubts about the state’s high-speed rail project backed by governor Gavin Newsom.
