If a major breaking news story occurs that warrants interrupting regular non-news programming (or, in the case of television and radio network broadcasters, regularly scheduled newscasts), the network will usually alert its affiliate stations to stand by for an upcoming interruption. At the time of the interruption, the feed pauses to allow affiliates to join the network’s feed before returning to its regular commercial content.
