Trending is a news segment that is popular or gaining attention on social media. The segment may be a breaking story, or it could be an ongoing topic that is being discussed heavily. Typically, trending stories appear at the top of the page on a news website. These topics are sometimes also featured on TV news shows, or even on national network broadcasts. Traditionally, when a breaking story occurs that requires an interruption in non-news programming (or occasionally, in some cases, regular scheduled newscasts) networks will use a special graphics package called a “Newsflash” or a “Special report”. This typically includes an opening graphic with a distinctive music cue, and an announcement from the network that a break is occurring. Depending on the urgency of the story, this can be followed by a countdown sequence to allow network affiliates to join the network feed.
Hallie Jackson travels to a remote stretch of New Mexico to shed light on new questions surrounding the search of Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch, and the federal government’s lack of cooperation in that state. She also discusses the psychedelic treatment Joe Rogan’s recommended, and how the president’s fast-tracked research on Ibogaine may have been the result of a text from Ronda Rousey.
