Current News

Trending is a segment of a newscast that talks about what stories are currently attracting attention from viewers. This is a common segment on most television and radio stations as well as several online news outlets. Unlike traditional newscasts, these segments don’t require an interruption of regular programming and usually aren’t run as cut-ins during non-news or regularly scheduled newscasts. Instead, they often feature their own dedicated opening graphic and special music cue to convey a sense of urgency. This type of coverage is most common on 24-hour news channels, which can interrupt live programs at any time to cover breaking events.
