Trending is a section of the Current News that talks about what’s currently popular. It’s updated frequently as new trends arise.
Breaking news is a term used to describe news events that require an interruption of non-news programming (or, occasionally, even regular network newscasts) to provide coverage of the story. It is usually announced through a special graphic or a countdown sequence that alerts affiliate stations to stand by for the breaking news and to switch over to the network feed. The breaking news coverage may last a few minutes, or it may run for days. Prior to the existence of 24-hour news networks, such breaks were usually reserved for very serious events, such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
