Today, Santa Cruz county issued emergency evacuations, tweeting for Felton Grove residents to, “please leave now” as the San Lorenzo River began to quickly rise. In Salinas, people are collecting sandbags to protect their homes days after roads washed out and levees broke. Other parts of the state like Sacramento are facing prolonged power outages. Though recent floods caused a 35% drought reduction, one scientist says it’s still not enough.

The advent of television news on the airwaves has been a long time coming. Ted Turner founded Cable News Network in 1980. It later spawned MSNBC and Fox News Channel.
The news networks seized on their technological advantage in serving the streaming audience. They invested hundreds of millions of dollars in their streaming operations. Streaming combines the speed and convenience of broadcast TV with the flexibility of web video.
Major streaming networks now offer daily stories, documentaries, and analysis. During the night, they offer regular nightly news programs. Some networks, like First News Live, offer a free weekly news broadcast.
For kids, there’s News for Kids, a US-based site that publishes roundups of current news written for kids. Their daily roundups include worldwide news, and they offer explanations of terms they may not be familiar with.
In the UK, Fun Kids Radio is a national children’s radio station. It produces podcasts, including The Week Junior Show, a children’s news programme that focuses on major news stories.
Another major source of space news is SciTechDaily. It covers the latest in astronomy, cosmology, and Gravitational Waves.
There’s also BBC Newsround, which offers daily stories on global and national news. Also, for kids, there’s the fun BBC What’s New? website, which includes stories about inspiring children from Africa.
